The Mine Adventures

Ok So, my roommate, some friends and I went exploring in the old mines up here. It was cool stuff, we took some pictures! You see Houghton and Hancock are old mining towns of the Quincy Mines...when Tech first opened in 1885 (it think) it was called Michigan School of Mines.

This was the exploring crew, plus me (picture taker). We are an adventurous bunch.

This is a picture down the mine shaft...I held the camera through the bars...oo DANGER...haha. Anywho, its not really that clear but it went down forever into a pit of darkness and when you drop of rock you can hear it just keep falling and when it bounces off the walls it just grows fainter and fainter 'till its too far away to hear. I was pretty amuzed!

All the buildings around the mines are in shambles, and parts of rusty machinery and piles of stone are everywhere.

This is a pictrue of pensive Kristin. As you can see there the walls of the old buildings remain mostly intact but the roofs no longer exist. However, it makes for a cool picture.

Andy and I scaled the wall and climbed into the window. Those stones and crumbling mortar create some excellent climbing holds.

All in all, it was a fun afternoon. Soon, ill be posting some pictures about the Fall Colors up here...gorgeous stuff.

While this Post is long past due, I see it as relevant anyway. This is me moving into college...the drive up...the new, incredibly spacious dorm room (cough cough), the good-byes...The beginning of my college adventure. Take a look for yourself.

This is me as excited as can be! Mama Jill, she got a little camera happy about 5 hours intot the 6 or 7 hour drive.

So here is the Dorm room before we unloaded everything.

And here it is a few short hours later...me all settled in.

This below is the view of my room...I absolutley love it!

This is 'downtown' Houghton...Technically its the 3rd most walkable town in the US...I have walked through it many times....its fun stuff!

HI ALL

Here I am in college! Life up in da U.P. is just dandy. Ive been extremely busy with school, firends, and classes, but so goes da life of a college student, eh? If ya havent noticed this here Yooper accent is starting to get the best of me.

Anyway, I hope that this will be an effective way of keeping everyone posted on my crazy college life. I'll do my best to maintain it!
