Yooper Day!
It was Yooper day at Michigan Tech... Yooper as in a U.P-er (aka a resident of the Upper Penninsula of Michigan). The goal of the day is to dress the part, while participating in Yooper-Like activites; Hopefully these photos will be enlightening

It is a pasty-eating contest. Objective: to be the first one to eat an entire pasty (pie-like crust stuffed with potatoes, beef, and other veggies).

Yes, even I participated in a round...But i lost horribly, not suprising considering how much i love lard and beef :-(

This was the Buck Hunting event. These are 2 of my friends Nora and Candice. The objective is to take the plastic rifles and shoot the "buck" (in the background). It was pulled along a string to simulate a running deer.

This here be a euchre tournament. Its Michigan's version of Rook baiscally. Its a quality game dont cha know.
These boys here be Kevin, Joe, Jason, and Garrett

This be Me and Kevin. Kevin won the "Best-Dressed Yooper" award in the Yooper Catwalk...Its gotta be the hat. I personally like the flannel/deer print that I'm sporting (my outfit was compliments of Jason's wardrobe).

It was a good day. There were even more events that we didnt participate in: Lake Superior Apple Bobbing and Duck Hunt (from the original Nintendo).

All you Yooper-wanna-be's look very dashing! Those boys all look like they are straight from the cover of G.Q......not! Oh well, maybe the Yooper G.Q. ...if there is such a thing! Missy! Way to go on those scruptous lard & beef pasties...yum! Yum!
looks like you are having way too much fun up there at College.
College life is the life!!!
Melissa.
These pictures make me wish I were in college too. Thanks for sharing them with all of us. It looks like tons of fun but how much book hitting is also getting done?
Maybe i could fit in up there in the U.P. The dress code is right up my alley...kinda the red-neck look. Mel, you have far too many pearly white teeth to be a real red-neck gal. You definetly have that out-doorsy type look though! You rock my socks!! Whew! Whew! Wish you were my girl!
Hi, Melissa,
You are having way too much fun at college, oh, my I would love to be in your shoes .... well, some years back ... not saying how many.
Just love looking at them. I think 14 is a good number and those boxers are great!! Flannel is good and warm ... reminds me of the good old days.
Love ya,
Grandma W.
