Melissa's Nerd World

Here I am at College. Life is great and crazy as you will notice. Its an exciting world here at Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech). I'm currently a 2nd year Biomedical Engineering Major. This year 2 of my major roles, other than student, are a Resident Assistant and a Math Learning Center Coach. I figure this blog will provide a way to share some of my cool experiences with my friends and family. Here it goes...ready?

Winter Carnival Snow Statues

Michigan Tech has a winter carnival tradition. Every year student organizations compete in a snow statue competition. This year's theme was "Cartoon Art for the Young at Heart". There were over 45 snow statues built this year. The competition begins 1 month before winter carnival and judging is the first day of carnival break. Its really amazing to see what these engineers are capable of. These pictures don't do it justice. I have put a pictures on here of quite a few but there are so many more.

This one was Tale Spin...created by mama's boys resident hall

This one was done by a Fraternity it was called "Aladin's Land of Frozen Sand" and was the most massive and detailed...It won first place.

This begins a series of 3 pictures...This won 2nd and was done by a different Fraternity. Its the grinch who stole christmas and there are several scenes of hoo-ville depicted throughout the statue.

As we walked around taking pictures during the campus wide all-nighter we ran across the snow-bar where they were giving out free root-beer. So we stopped for a few moments to relax.
This is Kevin and Berek.

They also made a snow couch...which Kevin and Jason are enjoying.

This statue is Inspector Gadget. It won 2nd and was done by a resident hall.

This was the first place all-nighter...Its veggie tales of course, Jericho's wall.

Winter Carnival was a blast!
